The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) launches National Petition  
Campaign to end modern-day slavery, sweatshops in the fields!

Denver-area allies of the CIW are bringing this effort to the Mile High City!

Background:
The CIW is launching a national petition drive calling on Burger King  
and other food industry leaders to work with the CIW to:
-improve the wages and working conditions of the men and women who  
harvest their tomatoes, and
-support an industry-wide effort to end human rights violations and  
modern-day slavery in all of Florida's fields.

The petition will also serve notice that those who sign are "prepared  
to stop patronizing Burger King now, and other food industry leaders  
in the future, should they fail to do so."

The launch of this petition campaign comes on the heels of a January  
2008 federal indictment for the seventh case of modern-day slavery to  
emerge from Florida's fields in the past ten years.

Standing together - as workers and consumers - we can make it the last.

Much more than an e-campaign, this petition is a living, tangible  
organizing movement that CIW encourages its allies to bring to life in  
their own communities in schools, churches, union halls, and community  
gatherings from Miami to Minneapolis, from New York to Los Angeles. We  
will turn in the petitions in a creative mass procession at Burger  
King headquarters in Miami later this spring.

Petition campaigns and consumer actions by British citizens helped  
hasten the abolition of the British slave trade in 1807. The CIW  
petition campaign honors the 200th anniversary of the US ban against  
the importation of slaves (1808), and echoes key strategies of the  
early abolitionist movement.

Let us together - workers and consumers - launch a modern petition  
campaign to end modern-day slavery and the everyday sweatshop  
conditions that enable slavery to flourish in the 21st century.

Peticiones para acabar con la esclavitud moderna y explotación en los  
campos!

¡Aliados en Denver de la CIW traen esta campana a la "Mile High City"!

Se parte de la más reciente grande iniciativa en la Campaña por Comida Justa:

La CIW está lanzando una colecta de peticiones para hacer una llamado  
a Burger King y otros líderes de la industria de comida para que  
trabajen con la CIW para:
-mejorar los salarios y condiciones de trabajo de los hombres y  
mujeres que cosechan sus tomates, y
-apoyar un esfuerzo al nivel de la industria para acabar con las  
violaciones de derechos humanos y esclavitud moderna en todos los  
campos de la Florida.

La petición también servirá como un aviso de que todos los que firmen  
están "preparados a dejar de comer en Burger King ahora, y en otros  
líderes de la industria de comida en el futuro, si se niegan."

El lanzamiento de esta campaña de peticiones viene un poco después de  
una acusación federal en Enero del 2008 para el séptimo caso de  
esclavitud moderna a surgir de los campos de la Florida en los últimos  
diez años.

De pie juntos ? como trabajadores y consumidores ? podemos hacer que  
sea el último.

Más que una campaña electrónica, esta petición es un movimiento  
viviente, tangible de organizar que la CIW anima a nuestros aliados a  
que le den vida en sus propias comunidades ? en escuelas, iglesias,  
salones sindicales, encuentros comunitarios desde Miami a Minneapolis,  
de Nueva York a Los Ángeles.  Vamos a entregar las peticiones en una  
procesión creativa masiva a la sede de Burger King en Miami más tarde  
esta primavera.

Campaña de peticiones y acciones por consumidores por ciudadanos  
Británicos ayudó a acelerar la abolición del comercio de esclavos  
Británico en 1807.  La campaña de peticiones de la CIW honra el 200  
aniversario de la prohibición estadounidense de la importación de  
esclavos (1808), y resuena estrategias claves del movimiento  
abolicionista.

Juntos ? trabajadores y consumidores ? lancemos una campaña de  
peticiones moderna para acabar con la esclavitud moderna y las  
condiciones de explotación diarias que permiten que la esclavitud  
florezca en el siglo 21.
