CISPES is organizing a delegation this summer entitled the "Radical Roots
Delegation" which will be specifically tailored for Salvadoran and
Salvadoran-American young adults over the age of 18.  This trip will provide
you with an intimate reconnection to your own heritage and familial
background, and will tie these experiences to an understanding of the
multi-faceted political and social issues that the country faces today.  

This trip will be crafted so that you will:
•    connect to Salvadoran culture
•    learn about the history and present-day reality of the struggle for
social and economic justice in El Salvador
•    analyze US economic intervention, the “free-trade” model, and their
impacts on the lives of real people
•    build leadership skills for progressive organizing
•    cultivate a political and personal understanding of identity in terms
of immigration status, race, culture, and class both in the US and in El
Salvador
•    develop an investment in the political future of El Salvador, as well
as in the role of those living in the US in shaping that future

The delegation is a rare opportunity to develop your political
consciousness, as well as your personal identity as a Salvadoran and/or
Salvadoran-American living in the United States.  We will be meeting with
representatives of social movements, unions, leftist student organizations,
former and current leaders of the FMLN, and grassroots organizations
fighting against transnational mining companies.  You will have
opportunities to spend time with peers and mentors from around the country,
exchanging experiences and connecting cross-border movements.

Durante este verano CISPES esta organizará una delegación a El Salvador que
se llama "Raíces Radicales", lo cual será construida específicamente para
los adultos jóvenes salvadoreños o salvadoreño-americanos que tengan más que
18 años.  Como delegado/a, te provendría este viaje una reconexión íntima
con tu propia herencia y raíces familiares, y una oportunidad para conectar
tus experiencias con un entendimiento de los asuntos políticos y sociales
complejos que actualmente enfrenta el país.  

Durante este viaje, vas a:
•    conectarte a la cultura salvadoreña 
•    conocer la historia y la realidad actual de la lucha por la justicia
social y económica en El Salvador
•    analizar la intervención económica de los EEUU y el impacto del
comercio libre
•    fortalecer capacidades de liderazgo
•    fomentar un entendimiento personal y político de la identidad
•    desarrollar un compromiso en el futuro político de El Salvador, tanto
como el rol de los que viven en los EEUU en construir este futuro

Este viaje es una oportunidad especial para desarrollar tu conciencia
política, tanto como tu identidad personal como salvadoreñ@ y/o
salvadoreñ@/american at .  Nos reuniremos con representantes de los movimientos
sociales, los sindicatos, las organizaciones progresistas de los
estudiantes, los líderes pasados y actuales del FMLN, y las organizaciones
de base que luchan contra las corporaciones transnacionales de la minería
metálica.  Tendrás la oportunidad pasar tiempo con iguales y mentores de
muchas partes del país, intercambiando las experiencias y conectando los
movimientos a través fronteras.
