Fifteen years have passed since the zenith of capitalist triumphalism, the
peak moment of capital's successful penetration of nearly every inhabitable
area of the globe. Not unlike the beginning of the last century, the
wealthy and privileged saw few storm clouds on the horizon, a future of
unlimited accumulation and placid rule. While there were some risings in
the hinterlands and some rebelliousness in the air, they were easily
suppressed or marginalized.

At the center of this capitalist utopia stood the world's gendarme-- the US
Goliath-- with bases, military power, and unmatched technology, ensuring
