I am pleased to announce

I want to apologize that
we have not sent an update since last Christmas to all our friends and
supporters of the Center for the Working Poor, (also known as the Burning Bush
community). After our monumental effort to run a tent city and have
hundreds of people hunger strike for immigrant rights, including 12 that fasted
for 22 days before the election--- we needed some recovery time.  

   

Now that Sam Pullen has regained
his health after the fast, he has been taking tremendous leadership at the
Center, and is coordinating a renewed effort to expand our programs to help
fired workers. This could not have come at a moment to soon, as the economy has
created a massive increase in unemployed.  In fact, some companies are using the
recession as an excuse to fire whistle-blowers who are then denied unemployment
benefits.  The need for our food delivery
program has more than doubled just within the last few months.

watched our video click here now. This short documentary interviews some of the
workers in our program, and there is even a cameo of my circus tricks, which I occasionally
perform for the kids. 



We are now struggling to raise enough money for our expanded program,
and to cover room and board for our volunteers. So if you can pitch in,
it will be a great way to
support the workers that are hardest hit by this economy.

Volunteers at The Burning Bush Catholic Worker,
an interfaith community, operate a non-profit organization called the
Center for the Working Poor. Our mission is to deliver food to workers
who have been fired. Many of them have been fired after reporting
injuries on the job.
